We have a free will
"Can a person gain complete control of another?". Indeed, not only can a person, but a ghost can, too. But we have free will and we don't have to allow anyone to manipulate us, or harm us. We allow it to happen because somewhere inside we want to, we feel ourselves to be victims. The executioner exists only as long as there is a victim. Before coming to this world we agreed with fraternal souls to play certain parts - you will be the victim, I will be the executioner. And thus it is that the executioner holds a whip over us, but when we say no, enough, I no longer want to play this game, then the executioner has no chance.
That is true with every manipulator and the same is true with a ghost. Ghosts have the right to be in the world of the living. It is their own free will whether or not they leave to join God. We may help them, but we don't have to. We cannot force them to leave. But we too have free will to decide whether or not we will allow a ghost to possess us. It is we who are masters of our fate, always and everywhere. We are free and even at moments when something has already happened to us we are still capable of saying no, that's it. God gave is free will. Remember, this law operates not just in this world but is also identical in the other. We can always decide for ourselves. If we wanted to be victims - fine, that's the part we wanted to play; the moment we say "No!" everything changes - instantly.
